Camp Projects

Camp projects, like monthly historical programs, are a foundational column of the Camp. At the left is a picture of the Winterville Confederate memorial that was dedicated in October of 2014.

We have built granite memorials, cleaned up graveyards, and placed wreaths on Confederate graves. We are a designated 501 (c) 3 charitable organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Annually the Camp celebrates Confederate Memorial Day by placing flags on Confederate graves throughout Clarke and surrounding counties. This culminates in a memorial service on the following Sunday. Below are pictures from the 2015 Confederate Memorial Day ceremony.

Camp 97 Sponsors VA Stone Placement

During the first quarter of 2017, Camp 97 sponsored the placement of a VA stone to honor Watkinsville's own CSA Veteran Capt. Joseph J McRae of Co L of the 3rd Georgia Infantry.

Capt McRae was buried in an unmarked grave in Shockhoe Hill Cemetery in Richmond, VA.

The stone was placed the week of March 20-24, 2017.

Honoring Past Member

Camp 97 sponsored the installation of a SCV Lifetime Member grave marker for past Camp Commander and founding member, Albert Sydney "Syd" Johnson. Syd was an inspiration to the camp. He was a fixture of a gentleman and will be forever missed.

A formal dedication was done on Sunday, October 15th, 2017.
